Wonderkid -a short film on homophobia in football

The gay short film Wonderkid tells the story of Wonderkid, a professional gay football player. Even though he is playing for his dream Premier League football club, he does not feels like he is on the top of the world as he is faced with callous friends, hostile changing room and vitriol-filled messages on social media. But more crucially, he needs to deal with himself. Will his homosexuality eventually become a problem? Watch the short film to find out!

Wonderkid is a 31-minute gay-themed short film. It launched at a one-off screening during the 2016 Raindance Festival. On November 25th, 2017 the film was broadcasted on Sky Sports 1HD. Since recently, the film is available to watch (in full) for free on the film’s website wonderkidfilm.co.uk.

The film is directed Rhys Chapman while it’s written by Rhys Chapman, Terence Corless and Matt Diss. Its main characters are played by Chris Mason (as Wonderkid), Leeshon Alexander (as Johnny), David McGranaghan (as Olly), Troy Glasgow (as Cumbo) Paul Joyce (as a 21-year-old man) and Thomas Judd (as Clint Johnson).
