The short film Why Does God Hate Me? tells the coming of age story of the 14-year-old boy named Matthew. He lives in a very religious town and his best friend, Ester, tries to ‘cure’ him of being homosexual. During a trip to San Francisco, Matthew learns that he might not be the one who needs curing.
Why Does God Hate Me? is a gay-themed short film by Joel Ashton McCarthy. The film got released on YouTube a little over a year ago. At the moment of writing, the film is already watched more than 1,5 million times. The main roles are played by Dakota Daulby (as Matthew), Nina Winkler (as Ester), Daven Pitkin (as the young Matthew), Ava Hassen (as Matthew’s mother) and Jack Christofferson (as Matthew’s father).
